About
![]() I love creating photographs. It's the opportunity to record the places and people in my life. It's also an opportunity to express myself visually, which I often find more natural than verbally. I am fascinated by the spectacle of Nature which, with study, allows me "to see a world in a grain of sand, And a heaven in a wild flower". I am also fascinated by the world of Man, whose deliberate constructs are imbued with logic and therefore much more amenable to study than Nature. Study is fundamental to my art. I often spend an age working out what drew my attention, and then again to distil that insight and purify it. I guess this is why I enjoy large format photography, which rewards patient analysis. Study is also central to the furtherance of science. I used to be a research scientist and now combine this experience with my passion for photography in the form of Litmus Images. The prints on this website are an opportunity for me to share with you what I feel matters. I would be delighted to know that their study rewards you with pleasure and new insights.
